Choosing a photographer often comes down to gut feeling about their style — and that matters a lot. But there are also a handful of practical questions worth asking before you book, so there are no surprises later.
1. How many edited photos will I actually receive?
This varies enormously between photographers and packages. Get a specific number, not a vague estimate, so you can compare apples to apples.
2. How long until I get my photos back?
Turnaround time ranges from a few days to several weeks depending on the photographer's workload. If you need photos for save-the-dates by a certain date, confirm this upfront.
3. Can I choose multiple locations?
Some packages include one location only; others allow two or three. If you're picturing a mix of, say, downtown Brampton and Gage Park, confirm this is included rather than an extra cost.
4. What happens if it rains?
A good photographer will have a clear rain policy — whether that's rescheduling for free, shooting anyway with a plan B, or something in between. This should be settled before your date, not discovered the morning of.
5. Do you offer any styling or outfit guidance?
Not every photographer does this, but it's genuinely useful if you're unsure what to wear. Ask if it's included or available as an add-on.
6. What's your photography style?
Look through a full recent gallery, not just a highlight reel, to get an honest sense of editing style — bright and airy, warm and moody, true-to-colour, or something else. Your engagement photos should look like something you'd actually want on your wall.
7. What's included in the price, specifically?
Confirm session length, number of locations, number of final images, and whether you receive full usage rights to print and share them however you'd like.
