High Park in Autumn: Toronto's Best-Kept Fall Photo Secret

High Park is one of Toronto's largest and most varied green spaces, and it becomes especially spectacular in autumn, when its extensive tree canopy turns into a wide range of reds, oranges, and golds. It's consistently one of our top fall recommendations.

Why it's a fall favourite

Few locations in the GTA offer this much tree density and variety in one place. The mix of species means the colour change happens gradually across several weeks rather than all at once, giving a wider window to catch great colour.

Grenadier Pond

The pond area offers open water views with tree colour reflected on the surface — one of the most photographed spots in the park for good reason, especially in the early morning when the water is calm.

The wooded trails

Away from the more open areas, High Park's trail system winds through denser forest, giving a more secluded, intimate feeling if you want to avoid the park's busier main paths.

Open meadow and hillside areas

For wider, more dramatic shots with sky and colour in the background, the park's more open hillside areas give plenty of room to work with different angles and light.

Managing the crowds

High Park is popular — especially during peak fall colour, when it draws visitors from across the city. An early morning session, ideally on a weekday, gives you the best chance at quieter paths and softer light without competing for space.

Timing your fall session

Peak colour in the GTA typically lands somewhere in the back half of October, though this shifts year to year depending on weather. If you want the most vivid colour, we recommend booking a flexible date range rather than one fixed day, so we can adjust slightly based on how the season is progressing.
